Counseling or Coaching

Defining Counseling (psychotherapy)…

Counseling, also known as psychotherapy, is the process of talking about and working through your personal problems with a licensed professional. These topics addressed may consist of but are not limited to:

·• Grief counseling • Psychological distress • Anxiety • Social Anxiety • Panic disorder • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) • Depression • Relationship and/or Marriage crisis or support • Major life change transitioning support • Individual/relational support • Spiritual/Religious differences.

The counselor is there to help you address your problems in a non-judgmental and unbiased way by helping you to clarify the issues, explore options, develop strategies, and increase self-awareness. Counseling (psychotherapy) focuses on identifying and learning from our past experiences and childhood wounds, understanding how they cause us difficulties in our present circumstances, and keeping us from having a grounded well-rounded life.

Counseling looks through the past as a tool for understanding present behaviors. Counseling is a way to seek different tools and skills that you may not have learned or been aware of, to help manage responses to life challenges. Counseling works toward strategic action steps, by using evidenced-based interventions that are appropriately and uniquely applied to help resolve debilitating mental health struggles.

What’s the difference between them?

How to make the best decision for you…

In counseling and coaching, of course, there are some similarities between the world of personal growth and mental health care. Coaching and Counseling (psychotherapy) are distinctly different services, providing different means of approach. Below you can read about the difference between coaching and counseling (psychotherapy) as well as a simple guide to help you decide which service may be best for your needs.

Defining Coaching…

Coaching is a process where a certified coach will act as your personal guide as you work collaboratively together toward your end goal(s). Coaching is a results-oriented mentor who helps their clients with personal or professional goals and improves certain skills to help promote change.  These topics addressed may consist of but are not limited to:

• Personal growth • Self-confidence • Mindset adjustment • Communication improvement • Major life change transitioning support • Problem-solving • Difficult decision making • Skill development • Goal achievement

Coaching is a way to seek out motivation and support to achieve certain goals in life. Coaching is more future-focused and goal-oriented. The goal of coaching is to create an action plan to help you achieve a specific desired outcome. Like in counseling (Psychotherapy), you can gain immense rewards with coaching. Both services can dramatically improve quality of life, help gain internal wisdom, and promote self-awareness in very different ways.

If you would like to set up a counseling (psychotherapy) or coaching session, I offer convenient virtual services with an easy pay-as-you-go scheduling feature. If you would like to request an appointment, then please contact me. I would love to hear from you!

The Journey, The Support, The Skills

The journey to becoming a licensed professional is an exciting and amazing experience in one’s life. It comes with this level of eagerness and passion for helping others, this joy when you are doing what you were meant to do. I can remember when I was early in my journey, I felt unsure and not as confident when I first started working with clients during my internship. When I graduated, I still felt those feelings, but with a great mentor and amazing supervisors along the way, I would love to give back and be that support and walk alongside you during this season of professional growth and self-discovery.

The support you will get during this time will be personalized as we will work towards increasing your skills and hands-on knowledge while working in the field, as this will also prepare you for Licensure. My approach is pragmatic yet compassionate, we will laugh, learn and even maybe cry (a good cry) through this process. I believe in a collaborative perspective as we all have different experiences and challenges that make this process unique and exceptionally rewarding.

The skills you will learn throughout this process will explore and implement clinical skills, case conceptualization, approach for treatment, ethical practices (personal and professional), clinical boundaries, and much more. You will also learn the importance of taking care of yourself and your mindset, you will learn resources not just for your clients but for yourself. You will be able to identify your ideal client and niche if needed, practices to avoid burnout, and implement a routine that involves a healthy work/life balance.

If you are looking for a supervisor that can…

  • hold you accountable during the process

  • design a thoughtful and holistic plan for you

  • supervise you as you build your clinical skills

  • identifying and maximizing your strengths

  • identify and improve your weaknesses,

  • analyze your difficulties and find solutions to them

  • encourage you to create a self-care plan for yourself

  • support and empower you to be the best at your craft

All I ask is that you show up to your sessions with an open mind and an open heart to grow and learn by…

  • partner together in collaborating mutuality

  • be willing to learn from mistakes and accept feedback openly

  • be willing to do research to identify sources of evidence to provide the best evidence-based modality for your client

  • be open to seeing obstacles as opportunities to grow

  • be your authentic self and show yourself compassion during this process

This is a wonderful opportunity to have fun doing what you are passionate about and figure out who you are as a clinician.

I hope you allow me to be part of your journey. If you are ready to start being more intentional and living a more aligned life, as you work through the process of your licensure, then give me a call.

Pricing for a session is $75 per individual and $45 per group

I am open for a 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals and needs in supervision. Contact me at (954) 546-0852 or email info@yourhealingheartccc.com
